About Elm and Vine

Elm and Vine is a recording artist based in Chicago. Since 2011, the core of their music has been sad songs that sound happy, and happy songs that sound sad. Instrumental roots in rock and punk are intertwined with a jazzy vocal influence and the harmonies of southern choirs they grew up singing in. They have one full album, Are You Feeling Happy Yet?, and four EPs: The Third Act, La Petit Rennaisance, Look on Songbird, and Carnival of the Damned.

While making music is something they do in their free time, Eli is a transducer engineer in Chicago with a masters in Audio Signal Processing and Acoustic Engineering. Every aspect of Elm and Vine is something they do on the side, from songwriting to recording, and from editing to releasing. They are very passionate about the projects they undertake, even if they are just personal music goals.

Eli has written and recorded original music for a decade, but started writing under Elm and Vine since 2019. It started with a ukulele, and has since evolved into an array of instruments that they collect. Eli currently plays piano, bass, banjo, guitar, flute for use in songs, but owns around 15. With the release of The Third Act, Elm and Vine now has 4 EPs in stores but Eli will have released their 100th song since 2011 on their upcoming album.

The Deej

Acting as a single-reed connoisseur, The Deej has played on every album and is a valued member of Elm and Vine. She has been playing clarinet for 6 years and saxophone for 3. All of her parts on songs have been written collaboratively, as she has an excellent ear for dissonance and interesting chord stacking. Most recently she has gotten extremely good at improvising her solos.
